If you’re thinking about designing your own products to sell, but you don’t want to stress over buying and storing inventory, then a print-on-demand provider may be the answer. Spri.ng, formerly known as Teespring, is one of the most well-known.

Spri.ng Review

Spri.ng is Teespring’s new name, as of Spring 2021. Why did the company rebrand? What started as a business specifically for printing t-shirts has grown. The company offers over 180 products – many of which are not apparel. The rebrand helps the business distance itself from being “just tees.”

Anyone can create a design and apply it to a variety of products to sell for profit. In the past, sellers had to sell a certain number of t-shirts before they would go into production. Spri.ng has since adjusted its model. There are no minimums. Now, when an item sells, it goes to fulfillment.

POD Teespring products you can design include:

• Tank tops, hoodies, sweatshirts
• Accessories like tote bags, pouches, and belt bags
• Beach towels
• Socks, leggings, sweatpants, and bike shorts
• Home decor like posters, canvas prints, and wall art
• Blankets and pillows
• Mugs, water bottles, tumblers, pint glasses
• Face masks and neck gaiters
• Phone cases
• Stickers

Teespring uses proprietary design software for all of its design projects. It’s easy to upload your own designs and choose the merch you want to sell.

There is limited design space on shirts. Because of this, you may find it difficult to get your design exactly as you imagined it.

Teespring Review: Printing Technologies

Spri.ng uses a variety of printing technologies, depending on the product you’re creating.

Options include:

• Direct-to-Garment (DTG): This sprays ink directly onto the fabric. The result is a long-lasting image that can withstand many washes.
• Sublimation: This method uses special paper and heat to transfer the design to the final product. They can use it on apparel, drink ware, and other products.
• Digital Printing: This method, commonly used on paper products, paints the image onto the final product pixel by pixel.
• Embroidery: With Spri.ng, you can take any design and have it converted to a digital embroidery file for use with hats, shirts, and other products.

At this time, Spri.ng does not offer engraving services.

Teespring Fees and Pricing

Creators can use Spri.ng for free. There are no upfront costs. Each item has a base price that’s shown in the launcher.

You set the price and keep the difference as profit. If you sell nothing, you owe nothing. You’ll always know what fees you need to pay when you sell an item.

You can use social media to market your designs. Simply run Facebook ads with promotions to drive traffic to your designs. Make money every time someone makes a purchase.

You don’t have to have any design experience to make use of the design tool and mockup generator. Spri.ng doesn’t offer any kind of design services, but you can hire your own on a freelancer platform like Upwork or Fiverr.

If you want your customers to have the option to personalize their products, you will need to find another POD provider. Spri.ng doesn’t offer this feature.

Ecommerce Integrations

Most of the POD platforms on the market today integrate with the most popular ecommerce platforms. You can list products in your store and automate the production process. Spri.ng falls short here.

Marketplace Integrations

Spri.ng falls short with marketplace integrations, too.

There are no native integrations for eBay, Amazon, or Etsy. You can build your own integrations with the API if you’re a developer or want to hire one.

Customer Service

Spri.ng has a strong support team available to help. Though you cannot reach customer service by phone, there is a help center and live chat feature.

It’s easy to reach someone for seller support. Teespring won’t provide support for your customers. Since it’s a dropshipping arrangement, the people receiving products you created on Spri.ng don’t know that they were ever involved.

Printful

Of all the POD platforms we’ve reviewed here, Printful is the best. Why? Beyond being able to make and sell your own products, it offers branding services, design services, and warehousing. If you reach a point where you need to have a certain amount of inventory on hand for faster delivery, Printful makes that easy. Your profit margins are a little lower than you’d find with other platforms, but for most businesses, it provides the best value overall.

Printify

Printify is Printful’s major competitor. If you want to host products on your own storefront, but don’t want branding or warehousing services, it could be the best option for you. You’ll get access to many of the same products, at a slightly lower cost. This translates to more money in your pocket. 

TeePublic

Like Spri.ng, TeePublic started as a place where designers could upload their artwork and sell t-shirts. It has since grown into a full-blown marketplace with other product options. The two platforms are highly similar – and ideal for someone who doesn’t want to manage their own store.
